I’m back from Keats Island in Vancouver, we had a superb week. There is much to share.
It was the long anticipated first “residential” of the Executive Arrow Leadership program. There were twenty two others; most from North America (Canada and USA) and several from far away places like South America and Indonesia. Most are leading (VP, CEO, Lead Pastors) churches and para-church organizations. I was afraid I might feel somewhat like the outsider without a current “position” – but that was not the case. We worked through the issues of leadership together in a “safe place.”
Most all struggle with challenging list of duties and roles and demands. I was in a great position to connect with Arrow Staff and several board members. Steve Brown, Tarra and Benda all were there. When asked to identify our greatest challenge in ministry, I said “Focus.” I’m in transition, I told the entire group. And I’ve got a broad range of interests. I need focus. Curiously, others identified. The word “transition” came up many times along with “overwhelmed” and “tired.”
There is a lot to share… here are a couple highlights -
- God met me there. Arrow has a strong spiritual focus. Check out Romans 8.
- I’ve never experienced a more comprehensive and personal self-assessment. We met with a psychologist, a leadership partner (Bruce Matthewson, a retired Kodak executive), a cluster group of four other leaders and remaining collection of leaders.
- The presenters led us in some first rate material on the issues of leadership. I also got the information I need to pursue the Doctor of Ministry designation at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.
It’s difficult, maybe impossible, to express my appreciation for the program. Many folks have told me that they are praying that God will lead us into his perfect will… seems these prayers have been answered in an amazing way.
Check out some of the photos…
