Family Portrait

It was a goal for Carolyn.  We had the entire family here for the week… and at Grandma Lorry’s house, we gathered for a rare moment of all-in-one-place and photograph.  Thanks to a patient Uncle Greg, and lots of coaxing aunts, uncles and cousins behind the camera, we managed a shot.  This is the best one from a memory card filled with proofs.  The one missing family member is Candy’s husband and Noah’s and Amelia’s daddy – Jamie.  I’ve patched him into the second version of the family portrait.

We’ve landed in Wisconsin

Carolyn and I are with her family in Spring Green, her folks home in Southern Wisconsin (about thirty minutes west of Madison).  It’s a wonderful family reunion as her sisters and brothers gather with spouses and aunts and uncles from near and far to remember Carolyn’s Mom.  The memorial is tomorrow, Saturday, at 1PM.

We are graterful for the many cards and e-mails and support coming from all our friends.  A beautiful bouquet arrived yesterday from our good friends and colleagues at Arrow Leadership.  Our daughters husbands have stepped up – Kristyn and Candy are here with their little girls.  (Kevin and Sonya had a trip to Seattle planned.)  Thanks to Ben and Jamie… and to my Mom for stepping in and helping to make it possible for Kris to be here.

We are thankful on many levels.  Carolyn had a wonderful visit with her mom just a little more than a month ago.

I’ll share more about the day when I can.  Again, thank you so much for your prayers and love.  God us holding us up.  Our faith is strong.  We love you all.

On this July 4…

Kevin in Melbourne with Noah

Kevin in Melbourne with Noah

Carolyn and I enjoyed another block party with Kris and Ben and the extended Duncan family in Fontana.  We celebrated Wil’s fourth birthday; and watched a dazzling fireworks show from their front yard.  Sonya and Em were with us; as Kevin finishes an extensive business conference in of all places Orlando, Florida.  In one of those remarkable convergences of schedules on the other end of the country, Kevin, Tim and Anna (Kemp) along with their new son Kai, all joined Candy and Jamie, Noah Amelia and the Ostrander girls for some time on the beach.  Check out the photos from East and West…

Happy Mother’s Day

I’m blessed to be in regular company with some of the great Moms… Carolyn, who raised three terrific kids who are now parents.. two of them proving themselves as great Moms – Kristyn and Candy.  Kevin married a terrific lady who has also joined the ranks… Sonya.  Then, there’s the Matriarch of the clan – Grandma, that’s Great-grandma Lorry.  I stumbled across a terrific three minute recounting of the life of a busy Mom, filled with the wit and wisdom Moms learn to relay in between crises, spills, departures, clean-ups and evenings at home.  It’s a collection of “Momisms.”  You’ll enjoy it as much as I… watch the photos of our gang flash by as you listen… to Anita Renfroe… in a little thing she puts to the William Tell Overture.

Candace, Noah and Amelia

What a week it was.  Candy managed to make the journey from Florida to California.  Her sister-in-law, Jennifer, made the trip with her – it coincided with a week of training on her new job here in Costa Mesa.  We’re all grateful to Jen for helping Candy with the two little ones on the nearly six thousand mile journey.

It meant that all seven of the grandchildren were together for the first time.  We saw most all the family… Sunday afternoon at the Park in Carbon Canyon; trips to Fontana and the Duncans, then to San Diego with Kevin, Sonya and Emerson.  Here – Wil welcomes Amelia…

We’ve collected some images from a week we’ll always remember.  The one missing face we thought of often was Jamie… so these photos are dedicated to Noah’s and Amelia’s Dad.

The Taylor University Tragedy

Carolyn and I were rivited by the interviews of the Taylor parents who were the sad victims of mistaken identity.  I wrote about it in this week’s LeaderFOCUS.  Candy was a senior when Laura Cerek was a freshman, and Candy remembers her boyfriend, Aryn Linenger.  If you missed the video interviews on the Today Show, I’ve got them linked…

Talked to Candace in Melbourne Florida the day after Easter.  We all missed the Ostranders at the family gathering.  Captured some terrific shots of Amelia over the web-cam.  Check ‘em out.

Keeping in touch…

We’ve got two new grand-daughters; Kate Duncan and Amelia Ostrander.  You’ve gotta love SKYPE.  With webcam attached on both ends, we can visit with and see our kids on the other end of the country.  Candy and Jamie live in Florida… take a look at Amelia and Noah.

It may be Duncan or Ostrander or Lodahl, Hunerdosse or Michels or Kitahara or Paulsen or Schwetz or Dibbs or one of many who've joined our family circle. Or it may well be that we've adopted you. Whatever your name, you're welcome here. Click on the links. You'll soon conclude - we are blessed. Glad you stopped by. Feel free to leave a comment.
