My husband is descended from Hans & Margrete Stuve from Norway. His grandpa was Howell A. Stuve from Humbird, WI then Owen, WI. Your wife would be from Martin’s line, Howell was from Hans’ & Emma’s line.
My friend gave me Dora’s obit from the camp where she must have been active. A couple from our church in Ogema, WI (when we lived in Phillips) are on staff (Desi & Dale Haskins). My friend saw the name Stuve and wonderd if we were related.
I do a lot of genealogy and am working on the Stuve lines right now. I have been in contact with Karen Moulton Mittan out west…she is granddaughter of Mathilde Stuve, sister to Hans Gustav Stuve.
I read the obit in the Clark Co. Humbird paper about Hans Gustav Stuve’s death on the train. I don’t have a news account of it, just that. Then Ida Gilbertson Stuve came back to WI for the rest of her life and had Helen, I believe near Fairchild, WI where they settled. I have researched some of her siblings and parents too from the Eau Claire, WI area. (We live near Eau Claire now).
I have never found the middle name (initial A.) of Ida nor her exact Feb. birthday, nor when and where she died. I have her in 1930 in Fairchild on the census but not much since. I have her sons, Clifford, Gene, Glen, Donald, all single and their deaths. I believe Helen is the only one living.
Maybe there would be someone who would like to correspond with me about the family. Dora’s testimony and experience of the generations of women (and girls) at her death was so moving. I lost my dad last June to a stroke and the last 10 days were special and we kids and mom were with him when he passed into Jesus’ arms. It is a special experience when there is hope!!
I have conflicting birth places (some others have entered on genealogy sites) and I am a stickler for accuracy. The census states all except Helen born in MT and they Dora’s marriage at Black Earth, WI and also listed as Newbern, IA. I believe that is also where Oscar was born. I have Dora born in Miles City, MT.
All the old records had Dora’s name as Dora Mae, but her obit in Spring Green had Dora May. I would like it to be correct.

Hi, Sheri. Your post was very interesting. I am the oldest child of Helen Luella Stuve Morrisson. Actually, my Mom has always gone by Luella socially, although for her official purposes, she uses Helen. My Mom is 83 and lives with my husband and I in West Palm Beach, FL. She informs me that her mother, Ida’s middle name was Amalia, and that Ida was born in Hurley, WI. Actually, I ran across the memorial program for Ida’s funeral, which I could scan and send to you. This program gives Ida’s date of birth as 1/9/1891 and her date of death as 3/11/1965. Final resting place in Hillcrest Cemetery (out off some country road near Fairchild.) Hans Gustav Stuve is buried there as well. There was a Ulysses Stuve (mother was Emma) who had a brother named Howell my Mom informs me. I personally remember Ulysses stopping by my home in Hammond, IN when I was a child. He worked on a freighter, steering the boat, Mom says. He had a room in East Chicago, IN and would stop by sometimes. My sister’s husband, Mark Rosemont, is a real train buff, and has driven real steam engines.
